Throughout the year, children enjoy a variety of holiday celebrations and special programs that enhance their learning experience at the ECC. Highlights include:
Each Friday morning our 3s and 4s classes celebrate Shabbat together in the WRT sanctuary. Led by members of the clergy, this special service includes songs and Shabbat traditions, and each class invites parents to take part in the festivities.
Other celebrations include a Purim carnival, Passover seders, Thanksgiving feasts, and a virtual trip to Israel for Yom Ha’atzmaut.
Westchester Reform Temple is a “zero waste” facility, meaning that it produces little to no waste by ensuring that all materials used are reusable, recyclable, or compostable. The ECC is proud to be a part of this special program, which supports the health of our earth, WRT families, and congregants.
Children also partake in special events that bring to life concepts they are learning in the classroom. Programs include (but are not limited to):
Truck Day: An onsite visit with real-life vehicles, including a fire truck, police car, construction vehicle, ambulance, and everyone’s favorite, an ice cream truck.
Spirit Day: A fun-filled day of sports and relay activities! Children learn about teamwork and sportsmanship, while cheering on friends and having fun.
Virtual Trip to Israel: A wonderful morning of sightseeing and experiencing Israel—at the ECC! Starting with a “plane ride,” students visit booths representing different Israeli sites, so they can experience the sounds, sights, and tastes of the country.
STEAM Extravaganza: An evening of exploration and fun! Children enjoy hands-on, interactive STEAM activities—from erupting volcanoes to a bridge engineering challenge—allowing them to explore concepts they’re learning in school in a fun, educational way.
